Taking the Internet from behind

Mage Kanade's Futanari Dungeon Quest offers an astounding collection of static and animated erotic CGs; the question is, how much of a game were you looking for?

Quality adult games are still relatively rare nowadays, with futanari-focused games comprising an even smaller subset of those. As such, I'm always happy to find what seems to be an exceptional game within the niche. Mage Kanade's Futanari Dungeon Quest already seemed promising in its demo, featuring top-down, Zelda-esque action gameplay and animated, quality erotic scenes. The full version provides even more content, but as it turns out, there isn't as much depth to it as I initially hoped for.

In Mage Kanade's Futanari Dungeon Quest, players take control of the titular mage adventuress. She's accepted a quest to investigate an area where people went missing. As she explores the locale for clues, she spots an unknown figure in the distance. Chasing after it for answers, she runs right into a trap and falls to the bottom of a multidimensional dungeon.

When Kanade wakes up, she discovers that not only has she been turned into a futanari, but a succubus is having a ride on top of her. The villainess happily explains her scheme: she's found a stone that allows her to turn women into futanari, so now she's capturing and throwing them into a dungeon for milking. We never find out why she didn't simply kidnap men instead, but the state of her captive suggests that futas in this world have an exceedingly hard time controlling their desires.

Sections of the dungeon are located in different eras, challenging Kanade even in Sci-Fi scenarios.

Given that the place is loaded with traps meant to turn anyone inside into a sex-crazy maniac, the succubus doesn't even bother to bind or imprison Kanade; she's free to try to get out. All her best efforts should amount to is an entertaining show of sexual corruption as she slowly succumbs to her desires. Even if Kanade makes any significant progress, she’ll have to deal with other succubi that manage each sector of the dungeon. The heroine has no choice but to try and prove the succubi's expectations wrong.

With this premise in mind, all players have to do is find a way out of each dungeon floor. The game is divided into 31 levels, grouped up into five domains, each controlled by a succubus mistress. As you explore through them while fighting enemies and traps, you'll eventually make it to a boss, beat them, and advance to the next domain.

The villains present in the game appear only briefly, but combined with the appearances of their levels, manage to stand out. You’ll have to go against a busty succubus shortstack specializing in paizuri; a massive and voracious slime; a calculating, efficient scientist utilizing brainwashing equipment, and a lively forest duo of a magician bunny girl and her fairy sidekick preying on your lustful instinct.

Many of the erotic scenes are animated, utilizing pixel art on relatively large canvases for the style.

Kanade is pleasant and responsive to control: she moves at a decent speed, has a dodge you can almost spam, and can perform an effective three-hit, medium-range attack combo. While it's a satisfying set of base abilities, her repertoire never gets expanded on. There are no new skills, weapons, or gadgets to unlock over the course of the game. On the other hand, the game isn't long enough to potentially get boring, either.

Each of the game’s 31 floors only takes a couple of minutes to clear. In total, the game took me about two hours to beat, which I did in just a single sitting. Even without playing on easy mode, you'll likely be blasting through the stages in no time, finding challenges in neither the enemies nor traps. There are also no puzzles or exploratory challenges to overcome; each floor makes for a linear gauntlet with a couple of enemy spawns, as well as harming or hindering traps to run past.

Mage Kanade's Futanari Dungeon Quest seems to be a title near-solely focused on providing a variety of sexual scenarios for Kanade to encounter. Every enemy has a grab attack which triggers a full-screen erotic animation, with new dialogue on each subsequent encounter. While exploring the dungeons, Kanade will also appear on the side of the screen, showcasing her current arousal and hopefully sharing it with the player. To make sure the overlay of Kanade doesn't grow stale, the game regularly forces her into new outfits as well, appealing to all kinds of different fetishes.

The quality presentation also stretches out into the game’s audio quality. The heroine’s attacks sound punchy and the way she's voice acted makes her sound vulnerable whenever she’s in a bind. The music is a bit more of a surprising area: the tracks on some levels feel completely detached from the tone of the previous songs, but they generally fit the themes of the level they’re on. The game also performs without issue; I hadn't run into a single bug through my short completion time.

Note the affliction bars: each attack against Kanade affects a separate health bar, with three levels of corruption.

Ultimately, I wish the game was longer, harder, and more interesting to play. While the abusive animations of what Kanade goes through are well done, you likely won't see them until you enter the gallery after beating the story. There simply isn't a high likelihood of being caught or defeated by most enemies. On the other hand, if you do find some parts challenging, you'll keep getting stuck in a cutscene that's constantly disrupting your gameplay. On the third hand, if you could turn the animations off entirely, the already-short experience would last you no time at all.

What this all means is that you should only buy Mage Kanade's Futanari Dungeon Quest if you're interested solely in the game's erotic content. The artwork is bountiful and visibly inspired. You can expect 28 animated CGs and 23 static images, each with fitting and exciting dialogue. I can't deny that a lot of care was put into the erotic aspect of Mage Kanade's Futanari Dungeon Quest. As a game, though, it’s expensive, short, and shallow, making for an overall bad deal. As a set of animated artwork, the game should deeply appeal to people whose fetishes it manages to target — on that token, it’s a decent purchase, especially if it's on sale.

If you’re interested in trying it out for yourself, Mage Kanade's Futanari Dungeon Quest comes in two versions: the original DLsite release with mosaic censorship, going for $18.37 (estimated from ¥2,750), which also has a demo; and the Steam release, which is being sold for $24.99. In the case of the Steam version, erotic content related to one character has been removed due to her limited height. You can find a patch that restores the content related to her on the developer's Twitter.

LewdFactor

Mage Kanade's Futanari Dungeon Quest features 28 animated sex scenes, most of which are a consequence of being grappled by an opponent. There are also 23 traditional CGs narrating sexual encounters related to the story itself. Aside from traditional penetration, Kanade is a frequent victim of pheromones, brainwashing, and binding. There are light vore elements in the game, though mainly in the form of keeping Kanade bound in place as she faces other forms of abuse.
