Walkure Romanze ~Shoujo Kishi Monogatari~, Ricotta's visual novel centered on jousting, has received an English translation courtesy of a group of fans.
Walkure Romanze ~Shoujo Kishi Monogatari~ is a slice-of-life romance visual novel about jousting, developed by Ricotta. The story plays out at the Wynn Ford Academy, which promotes jousting as its leading sport. The protagonist, Mizuno Takahiro, used to be a prominent jouster but was forced to retire due to a sustained injury. Since then, he’s been a Begleiter for the jousting club, taking care of horses and advising other competitors about jousting.
Early into the story, Takahiro’s childhood friend, Kisaki Mio, joins the competition. She’s always been supportive of the protagonist, believing that he will eventually heal and return to competing. As Mio herself has never ridden a horse, Takahiro offers to be her coach, cherishing their good friendship together.
Throughout the competition, Takahiro also meets other contestants and their friends. Those include Celia, a favored competitor with excellent grades, who will likely be the biggest challenge for Mio to overcome in the tournament. Others, like Noel Marres, compete with great motivation. In her case, Marres promised herself to never lose in front of her sister, who became paraplegic after a jousting accident. There’s also the shy Lisa Eostre, who, despite being respected by everyone in her class, is terrible at making friends.
Walkure Romanze ~Shoujo Kishi Monogatari~ first released in 2011, self-published by its developer, Ricotta, for the Japanese market. The title was popular enough to receive an anime adaptation in 2013 and even received two fandisc expansions, as well as an unofficial Chinese localization in 2017 and 2018.
Fan efforts to create an English patch for Walkure Romanze ~Shoujo Kishi Monogatari~ began about five years ago. The team behind the project changed regularly, but many wanted to make the story more popular on the global scene. The project has finally been completed after years of perseverance, with a full fan translation becoming available on VNDB
The project is credited to the efforts of an anonymous moege translator, who received help from the editor J.R., with quality assurance from casual_scrub, and many technical jobs such as hacking, editing, making the font, and tools all attributed to Jack. The process also utilized tools made by Atomcrafty and Marcus Sacana.
You can now download the English fan translation for Walkure Romanze ~Shoujo Kishi Monogatari~ from VNDB. The patch comes in two versions: one translates the honorifics used in speech, while the other keeps them untouched. The translation comes with the 1.1 patch for the visual novel, which is necessary for the translation to work. Installation instructions are available in the readme file present in the package.
