Dear Monster, Y Press Games' visual novel about a man trapped in a mansion with fantastical beastmen, is now available on Steam and Itch.io.
Previously, we had written about Dear Monster when Y Press Games launched a Kickstarter campaign for the game in April of last year. Dear Monster is a fantasy romance yaoi featuring art by the bara artist Jouvru. The protagonist, Allen, had just graduated university and was off to med school when he received a strange letter from his grandfather, who hadn’t contacted him in years. He promptly travels to his grandfather’s mansion and finds himself trapped in the estate with five mythical creatures, all thanks to an invisible barrier. Struggling to come to terms with the fact that magic and handsome beastmen exist, Allen must decide to either follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and become a wizard or find a way to escape the mansion, returning to his ordinary life. Even though he has clear plans for the future, these monster boys start to lead Allen astray. Something about them feels familiar, but he can’t quite explain it.
All of the sprites in Dear Monster are 3D animated, with each of the romanceable guys having a monster form. For those with weaker or slower computers, you can toggle the in-game options to make the sprites static instead. There are forty CGs and nineteen endings to discover. Four of the guys’ routes are available now, but the Orc route, which was a stretch goal in the Kickstarter, is currently slated to be added during the summer or fall of 2023.
You can purchase Dear Monster on Itch.io for $29.99 on Itch.io and from Steam, where the game is currently on sale for $26.99. The launch discount on Steam ends on January 23rd, after which the game will return to its normal price of $29.99. There's also a demo available if you want to try the game out first.
