At least here the pages aren't sticky

Originally distributed solely on MangaGamer, four entries in Alicesoft’s Ranceseries have made their way to FAKKU!, GOG, JAST, and Kagura Games.

Rance is one of the most well-known franchises among adult video games. A series of comedy RPGs, it has distinguished itself with a continuous narrative and a well-established setting, despite beginning mostly as a parody of the genre’s tropes. Nothing is as showing of this as its antihero protagonist, the titular Rance, who’s a selfish rapist with no true morals, yet repeatedly ends up vanquishing evil and winning the appreciation of those around him, including his former victims.

Being developed by Alicesoft since 1989, the series eventually saw an official English localization produced by MangaGamer and sold solely on the publisher’s storefront. From now on, fans of the series have more choice in where to acquire their copy of the game, as multiple entries have become available on FAKKU!, GOG, JAST, and Kagura Games.

The re-released entries are the remakes Rance 01 + 02, Rance VI + 5D, strategy game Sengoku Rance, and the recently released Rance Quest Magnum. These entries will take players from Rance’s humble beginnings solving a missing person case, to the times he’s became such a menace a curse was placed on him to keep him in check.

Rance 01 -Quest for Hikari- + Rance 02 -The Rebellious Maidens- is a pack of the first two Rance games, remade for modern machines. The games feature new, high definition artwork and an entirely new combat system. The most significant change took place in dungeon exploration. Players now get to choose their next encounter in from a set of cards. Combat plays out using special chips, which are used to denote actions for the given round.

The general plot largely follows the same story, though expanded and made more consistent. Rance 01 sees the antihero and his companion Sill investigate a case of a missing rich girl, hoping to make a quick buck. In the second game, Rance and Sill become the only ones to answer a call for help from the remote town of Custard. As it turns out, an evil mage has brainwashed magical maidens that protected this place. The only way to set them free? Taking their virginity, of course!

Rance 01 -Quest for Hikari- + Rance 02 -The Rebellious Maidens- is now available on MangaGamer, GOG, JAST, and Kagura Games for the promotional price of $27.96, with FAKKU! being listed as $25.95, It will later cost $34.95 for its normal price on all storfronts.

Rance 5D + VI, the second pack of two games, takes the form of 3D dungeon crawler RPGs packed with complex dungeons littered with special events. While these stories take place sometime in the life of Rance, 5D can be played without previous knowledge of the franchise. In this case, we follow him on an adventuring quest, during which he ends up lost in a dungeon. Hidden in its depths, he finds a youkai’s castle.

Rance VI sees the protagonist visit the magical Kingdom of Zeth. Unaware of the class segregation taking place there, Rance is soon taken into confinement. In this part of the world, mages are seen as the superior ruling class, while mundane people such as Rance wallow in poverty. Angered by the mistreatment, the antihero decides to join the local resistance group and led them to rebellion against their oppressors to take revenge.

Rance 5D + VI is now available on MangaGamer, GOG, JAST, and Kagura Games for the promotional price of $27.96. FAKKU! has it listed $28.96, and it will later cost $34.95 on all storfronts.

Sengoku Rance stands out as the only entry in the series to be a grand strategy game. The nation of Nippon is currently in the state of civil war as fedual lords fight for supremacy. Rance happens to travel there for vacation, ignorant of the conflict and horny for ninja and samurai action. After meeting him, the sickly Nobunaga Oda decides to hire Rance as his new advisor to plan the conquest for his clan, which currently holds only one province. Seeing this as an opportunity to get his hands on other clans’ princesses, Rance agrees.

The game plays out in turns, during which players can assign various actions for each province, as well as train troops and battle for territory. Combat is also turn-based, taking place between teams of six units. Classic dungeon crawling also appears, however it’s delegated to random dungeons located in certain provinces.

The story plays out as players capture provinces and activate special events. As many characters in the game have unique storylines, the conflict can play out in a multitude of ways, leading to varied endings. Players tired of Rance can also enjoy playing as any of the other clans, which feature much shorter stories and simpler goals.

Sengoku Rance is now available on MangaGamer, GOG, JAST, and Kagura Games for the promotional price of $27.96, with FAKKU! listing it for $28.96. It will later cost $34.95 on all storefronts.

Rance Quest Magnum is the eight title in the series, playing out right after the events of Sengoku Rance. This time, the walking menace makes its way to the Copan Empire in the Free Cities Zone. Initially driven by a personal quest, Rance soon forgets his motivations and decides to abuse the women of Kalar Village. Karma finally strikes back, as the Kalar princess curses his hyper weapon. From now on, Rance is unable to get an erection when interacting with women below his character level. Moreover, if one does agree to bed him, she will lose her levels after the deed. The only upside of this commitment is a rise in the level cap after the deed.

As for gameplay, Rance Quest Magnum returns to the series’ traditional dungeon crawling and turn-based combat. Rance can dive into dungeons with the assistance of up to four other girls, rising their levels so that he may have his way with them in the future.

Rance Quest Magnum is now available on MangaGamer, FAKKU!, GOG, JAST, and Kagura Games for the promotional price of $35.96, where it will later cost $44.95 for all the listed stores.
