A pair of childhood friends reunite after five long years in ebi-hime’s Dreamy Planet, a yuri romance visual novel now available on Steam.
Dreamy Planet is a visual novel named after the main location of its story: a long-defunct amusement park. Haruka and Shiina used to spend a lot of time together in this place during their childhood. They had seen themselves as inseparable at the time, but five years ago, Haruka cut ties with her old life, of which Shiina was a part of.
Unable to keep up with the stressful life of being a nurse, Haruka eventually left her profession behind, leading her to feel inadequate and sinking into a deep depression afterward. She's lived with her parents since then, even ending up engaged to her boyfriend; however, now that Shiina has invited her out, she found the courage to accept. The two of them explore the remains of the amusement park, hoping to salvage their old friendship — or perhaps even rekindle their old love.
The visual novel features approximately 2-3 hours of kinetic storytelling, focused mainly on the girls’ relationship and Haruka’s poor mental state.
Haruka and Shiina used to be inseparable. They grew up together, went to school together, and ardently believed that they would always be best friends.
That was before Haruka’s breakdown, however.
Worn down by her demanding job as a nurse, Haruka abandons her old life, and her old best friend, and moves back in with her parents. Believing herself to be a failure, and too ashamed to see Shiina again, Haruka retreats into herself and her depression, and despairs.
It isn’t until almost five years later that Haruka and Shiina reunite. At Shiina’s behest, the pair of them make an impromptu trip to a favourite haunt of theirs from their youth: an outdated theme park on the outskirts of Nara called Dreamy Planet.
Dreamy Planet was once a popular park, but it has since fallen into disrepair. The park was closed down several years ago, owing to dwindling attendance numbers, and it has been left in a miserable state: the spinning teacups, the roller coasters, and the carousel all left to rust.
Together again, Haruka and Shiina pick their way through Dreamy Planet’s carcass, and as they do, they recall fond memories from their past. Dreamy Planet might be beyond salvaging, but perhaps their relationship can still be saved – if only Haruka can find the courage to finally tell Shiina how she really feels.
Dreamy Planet is now available for Windows and Linux on Steam for the promotional price of $6.29 until September 22nd, at which point it will cost $6.99. Adult content has to be installed separately using a free DLC patch.
