Inspect travelers at the border cross in Tengsten’s The Imperial Gatekeeper, a simulation game released by Kagura Games on Steam, Denpasoft, and their own storefront.
The Imperial Gatekeeper is a simulation game in which you take the role of a border inspector. The Empire has been united following a Great War, but dissent is still present. As a hero of the war, you’ve been reassigned to the border guard to help maintain peace. To a decorated war hero, this job seems like an insulting downgrade, but the orders are clear.
You’ll be placed at various borders throughout the empire and provided with increasingly complex rules on how to verify the people trying to cross through. Initially, you’ll be simply looking at the expiration date of a border pass. Later on, you’ll have to make full-body inspections to ensure that nobody is trying to sneak in weapons.
Given the position you’re in, the citizens will often be at your mercy. You may be given various offers in exchange for letting people through. You can also abuse the citizens if you feel so inclined. However, make sure you meet all your quotas and don’t attract too much attention, as otherwise The Empire will dock your pay. The game includes a wide array of randomly generated NPCs that will arrive at the crossing, as well as several unique characters with personal stories and graphic CGs to unlock.
The Imperial Gatekeeper has already been available in the past, thanks to Tungsten’s English release, which was sold on DLsite. You can read more about the game in our review. Kagura Game’s release improves on the original version by removing the mosaic censorship and featuring a better translation.
The Imperial Gatekeeper is now available on Steam, Denpasoft and Kagura Games for the promotional price of $11.69 until September 9th, at which point it will cost $12.99. The game is also available on FAKKU! for the full price.
A demo of the original can be downloaded from DLsite, where the game remains available for $9.41 (estimated from ¥1,320). Adult content for the Steam version of the game has to be installed separately using a free patch available on the Kagura Games’ website.
