Kinky Fridays Seeks Funding for Puzzle Game Under Contract

Kinky Fridays has launched a crowdfunding campaign for Under Contract, a match-3 puzzle game about a collage dropout stuck working in a company run by demons.

Kinky Fridays is an experienced adult game developer, known for their puzzle game Pieces of my Heart and the roguelike action game, Elewder, which is currently in early access. Looking to expand their library of products and continue working on puzzle games, the company has now launched a new crowdfunding campaign for a match-3 puzzle game with 3D sex scenes, named Under Contract.

The game will follow a college dropout named Richard. Lazy, unmotivated, and terribly in need of money, the young man applies for any job he finds. He's desperate enough to sign the first contract he’s given — without even bothering to read it. His reckless behavior immediately gets the better of him, as it turns out that his new workplace is being run by dazzling, but cruel demons.

Lacking any sort of skills or experience, Richard is tasked with heaps of mindless paperwork. Even if he's the only male employee in an absurdly toxic workplace, it seems to be a tolerable fate — except that the cursed job contract forces him to work even in his sleep. Every night, he'll pass out only to dream of working at the office in the dreamscape, waking up back at his real office desk in the morning.

At first, it seems that there’s nothing he can do about his predicament. Even skipping to a different state will cause him to wake up back at work. Fortunately, he meets a guide of the underworld who reveals to him the rules demons abide by. He can free himself and even his fellow brainwashed co-workers by facing the demons in match-3 puzzle combat. What’s more, any time he defeats one of the company board members, he’ll get their company shares. With enough shares, he might just be able to buy back his soul — or whatever’s left of it.

The majority of the gameplay in Under Contract will play out in the dreamscape during Richard’s night shifts. Here, players can select levels along branching paths that will allow them to choose what order to free other employees in and when to face the next department boss. There will be different types of levels in the game, with the Kickstarter demo featuring time attack challenges and versus battles against various characters.

During the puzzle rounds, player have to grab orbs of different colors from the top of the screen and pair at least three of them vertically by throwing them back up. New orbs will keep coming down from the top of the screen over time. The player loses if an orb touches the ground or if they fail the level’s objective.

When fighting against another character, both the player and their opponent collect the orbs on separate screens. Matching orbs of any color with special sword orbs spawns extra rows on the opposing field, inching the opponent towards their loss. In the full version of the game, more special orbs will be added, including defensive shields and elemental orbs that'll modify effects of the attack orbs. Aside from the story mode, players will be able to play through a series of matches in arcade mode, as well as challenge each other in a local versus mode.

Beating levels in the campaign will not only unlock further access into the dreamscape, but also progress the story along. After every major accomplishment, Richard will wake up back in the real world for another day shift at his office. It's in these sections that he’ll get to spend time with his co-workers and demonic superiors, with rescued heroines often offering intimate rewards for saving their souls from endless damnation. Sex scenes make use of the character’s 3D models to produce cutscenes akin to visual novels, which are both narrated and animated.

The current demo introduces a trio of co-workers to the story: the short workaholic, Monika, who hates her job; the two-faced, Tracy, who hates Richard for existing; and the toxic, brash Kelly. Four department managers have also been announced in the crowdfunding campaign, with Bliss from marketing appearing in the demo to promise Richard his demise and send a letter asking employees to cut his balls off on sight. The company itself is run by Dominique Le Souverain, a red-skinned demon queen who’s grown bored enough to hire new people just to torment them.

Kinky Fridays is aiming to amass a total of $21,132 USD to complete the game (estimated from the €20,000 campaign goal). Backers can expect a variety of perks and reward for their participation, with everyone who pledges at least $8.45 (estimated from €8) receiving a copy of the game on release, alongside a wallpaper and their name being placed in the credits. Further tiers include access to special artwork, stickers, standees, dakimakuras, and even a chance to place a custom quote within the game. The highest pledge tier will allow up to four backers to implement a custom character into the game.

Stretch goals have also been added, in case the team gets extra funding. These mainly center around adding more animations, music, and scenes into the game. Most notably, the team plans to invest in voice acting for the game’s script if funding reaches $47,537 (estimated from €45,000). Should even more funding be gathered, further stretch goals include additional areas and characters for the game.

A team of 6 people at Kinky Fridays is currently working on Under Contract. Regarding the main risks and challenges facing the project, they've taken into consideration whether they’ll be able to reach the level of polish they’re aiming for, as well as how long it will take to fully develop the game. The team is assured that, whatever circumstances may come up during development, they’ll be able to deliver the game sooner or later.

You can find more about Under Contract and pledge to the campaign on Kickstarter until June 19th. A demo of the game is also available on Steam.
