Azephir's Kickstarter campaign is now live for their yaoi visual novel/RPG hybrid about a man who inherits magic, The Magic Mediator.

The Magic Mediator is a game currently developed by Azephir, set within a modern fantasy setting. One day, the game's protagonist, Olivier (whose name can be changed), was visited by Assane, a man who had more information regarding his grandfather’s assets. He tells Olivier that his grandfather was a mage and when he passed away, his magic was passed down to him. Olivier was hesitant to believe Assane, but after the man gave him a pair of glasses, he was shocked by what he saw: upon donning the glasses, Assane's appearance changed into a fairy with butterfly wings. He told Olivier that after receiving his new powers, he also inherited a job as a mediator for the magical world. Only Olivier can resolve the conflicts between different magical communities — including some that even involve humans.

At the beginning of the game, you'll be able to choose your strengths and weaknesses. Your options are physical (strength, agility, etc.), intellect (the ability to reason and learn), intuition (perception, empathy, moral sense, etc.), beauty and charm, and other (power). Depending on the situation, these strengths and weaknesses will either help or harm you. Each conflict you face has multiple solutions, so you'll be tasked with making choices based on your abilities. You'll be able to negotiate, listen, charm, intimidate, or bewitch your way into solving the various problems that arise.

Assane Kone (Fairy) : Your boss. You will not date your boss, don't you?

Paul (River dragon) : A thousand-year-old creature, rather haughty and detached from everyday problems. You will have a lot of work to do to impress him...

Thomas Dubois (Werewolf): Alpha of the werewolf pack in Grenoble. He is rather calm and composed and gives off a natural authority, coupled with a relative benevolence. Loving father.

Sam Dubois (Werewolf) : Son of the alpha, rebellious young adult, he is nice, but is very inventive to get into trouble. He is a hothead and a bit naive, probably because he was very sheltered by his father...

Raphaël Fournier (Fire Elemental): His ability to keep calm in very tense situations makes him a very good negotiator. Unlike most of his fellows, the fire in his nature expresses itself in other areas than anger... He is polite and friendly, but does not like to waste his time.

Azephir is asking for €4,000 ($4,200) on Kickstarter to fund The Magic Mediator. Anyone who backs the Kickstarter will receive rewards and the opportunity to become a beta tester. Backers who apply for the higher tiers will receive rewards from the previous ones.

By backing €15 ($16), you'll receive a digital copy of the game.

At the €18 ($19) tier, you can have your name appear on in-game credits.

At the €25 ($27) tier, you'll receive a PDF with all the sex scenes in the game.

At the €30 ($32) tier, you'll receive a walkthrough detailing how to unlock all the romantic routes and endings in the game.

At the €45 ($48) tier, you'll get the game’s digital soundtrack.

At the €60 ($64) tier, you'll have the chance to become a beta tester. Backers of this tier will be able to play the game before it releases and give Azephir feedback on these beta builds.

At the €100 ($106) tier, you can be an alpha tester. Additionally, Azephir will send you a special digital thank you card with a personal, handwritten message. This reward tier is limited to twenty backers.

At the €500 ($526) tier, a character based on the backer will appear in the game. The character will have two forms: a human form and a magical one. The human one will be based on a photo from the backer, while the magical form will be discussed between the backer and Azephir.

Features

- 110k words goal, so twice as big as The Alchemist

- RPG mechanics (resource extraction, crafting, "battle", skill improvement, etc.)

- Spells and magic

- Romance (at least 5 male romance characters)

- Each magical character has a magical form (dragon, wolf, fairy, fire elemental, orc, ...) and you can see it with the toggle button "put on or take off the magical glasses".

- Beautiful CGs (depending on the success of Kickstarter) with the human and magical forms. Some of them will be +18 ;-)

The Kickstarter for The Magic Mediator will end on July 2nd. As of right now, Azephir has raised €3,777 — which is approximately $3,990. You can also play the demo on Itch.io, though keep in mind that this demo is in its very early stages: the 3D sprites are used as placeholders for the game's original art and its RPG game mechanics haven't been implemented yet.
