Clean up for the next guy

The demo of NAISU’s arcade-inspired area drawing game, Mokoko X, has been released on Steam.

Mokoko X is an arcade game inspired by classic titles from the '80s and '90s, such as Volfied or Gals Panic. Just as with the first Mokoko game, Mokoko X's story has you help out girls troubled by various comedic issues. These can include being stalked by a possessed shuriken, fighting off arachnophobia by beating imaginary spiders or fending off a man who transformed into a mosquito just to be a nuisance. Aiding these girls involves controlling a character on a square field populated by traps and enemies. The goal is to draw out areas of the screen and connect them to the edge, which cuts the area off the map to reveal the image hidden beneath it. In order to win, the player has to cut off a given portion of the screen.

The task isn’t quite as easy as it sounds, though; while drawing out an area, the player leaves a line behind, and should an enemy or their projectile collide with it, the player is dragged back to the edge and loses a life. Small enemies can be destroyed by drawing out the part of the screen they occupy, while larger bosses will be a nuisance for the entirety of the level. As the map shrinks with each cut, it becomes harder and harder to avoid all the dangers at play.

Beating each level unlocks an image of the heroine from that specific story while finishing each level related to a single girl unlocks a new page of the titular Mokoko legend. In the full game, there will be 8 girls to assist, with a total of 32 levels and 24 bosses, each with their own story. The game also features full voice acting for both the heroines and boss enemies.

About

Mokoko X was inspired from the arcade games like Volfied, Qix and Gals Panic. A popular gaming style in the late 1980’s, Mokoko X looks to resurrect the soul of the arcade genre while adding a modern touch. There are 32 levels in Mokoko X; each level has its own unique boss and minions. The main goal is assisting the girls that need help from the weird bosses. This is sometimes passing a mobile game level, sometimes helping out with the insects in the kitchen.

Gameplay

You need to conquer a big portion of the initial area that you start the level. While you are in your own area, you are safe from the enemies until your shield empties. You conquer new areas by drawing out of your area. Drawing, however, deactivates your shield and exposes you to danger. Your shield decreases constantly. If you do not conquer at a certain frequency, your shield will burn out and you will not be safe on your own areas as well. There are 3 difficulties in the game. The difficulty affects enemies, your shield, and required conquered area percentage for the victory.

What happens when you pass a level?

You see the related girl's photo and can continue with her story or unlock the next girl.

How many girls and bosses?

8 girls, 24 bosses, 24 minions, 24 levels, 8 mega levels, 4 traps, 4 power-ups, and 2 towers! Evil towers of course. Each boss and his minions were uniquely designed. They all have different attack types and behaviors, which consist of rich content.

The demo for Mokoko X is now available on Steam for free, with the full version of the game scheduled for release on April 7, 2022. Adult content for the game will be distributed as an optional patch.
