The staff of sprite, the company behind Aokana - Four Rhythms Across the Blue, has regrouped and plans to continue production.
In June 2018, sprite announced on aokana.net that they would dissolve and stop producing games after Aokana Perfect Edition was completed and released in Japan. After the release in November 2018, sprite stopped production and disbanded the group as promised. All progress made on Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm EXTRA2 and Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm Zwei, the sequels to Aokana, was stopped indefinitely. Finally, when March 27, 2019 rolled around, the spriteSTORE was officially closed and shut down.
Aokana - Four Rhythms Across the Blue was originally under the copyright of sprite/fairys. Fairys was a sister brand to sprite that disbanded in May of 2018. After they disbanded, fairys transferred the Aokana copyright completely to sprite.
Recently, on November 28th, 2019 sprite announced that they've decided to regroup and reorganize under the new production studio, S-WORKS. This was due to many fans requesting their revival, and former sprite staff wanting to continue production.
Now that sprite has regrouped as sprite/S-WORKS, they want to continue producing Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm EXTRA2. Despite dissolving and regrouping a year later, sprite is still considering ways to handle the game’s development. Sprite will publish a follow-up report in January 2020.
You can check out the notice of reorganization on their sprite’s website. Keep in mind that the site is in Japanese. If you want to show support for sprite, consider buying Aokana - Four Rhythms Across the Blue from Steam, MangaGamer, JASTUSA, NekoNyan, or Denpasoft.
