In the latest edition of Lewd Spotlight, we interview Mews, an artist, and lover of the female form who believes cuteness is justice.
LewdGamer: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Mews: People call me Mews, I'm a 26-year-old full-time freelance artist. Hobbies include harassing my 3 cats and playing farming games.
LewdGamer: How and when did you start drawing?
Mews: I've basically been drawing as long as I can remember. There were a few years in my early 20's that I stopped due to the soul-crushing exhaustion of having an office job, but otherwise, it's been non-stop my whole life. I blame my dad for my early exposure to anime and video games because those were really the things that sparked my interest. I loved drawing all my favorite characters as a kid, and I still do!
LewdGamer: How long have you been drawing lewd artwork and what got you into it?
Mews: If you count the one time in elementary school when I drew an 8-year old's rendition of a naked lady, then quite a while. Otherwise, I'd say around when I was 16 and started playing WoW for the first time. Teenage hormones and fantasy characters were a dangerous mix for me. I drew a lot of Arthas & Jaina smut that I hid in a sketchbook I kept under my mattress, haha.
LewdGamer: How did you arrive at your current art style?
Mews: You know, I'm not entirely sure about this one. I changed styles very drastically and frequently when I was younger, but as I got older, I kinda stopped trying to emulate things and just let it manifest itself over time. I think it's very heavily anime influenced, but there are bits and pieces of all the things I've tried over the years subtly mixed in.
LewdGamer: Do you draw for a particular kind of audience?
Mews: I guess I would have to say that I draw for anyone who can appreciate the female figure. Not necessarily in a sexual way, but I've just always found that the soft nature of feminine figures is the most interesting thing to draw. There are so many curves and creases and interesting shapes and shadows, I just love it.
LewdGamer: What is your favorite character and fetish to draw?
Mews: I'm not sure that I have a favorite character to draw, actually! I used to want to be a concept artist or character designer though, so I really enjoy creating original characters for pieces. Even if they're one-off designs that I never use again. As far as fetishes go, I adore drawing feet and armpits, so you'll see a lot of poses with arms up or bare feet in my work. Oh, and anything femboy related is definitely a guilty pleasure.
LewdGamer: Is there anything you wouldn't draw?
Mews: Honestly? Every fetish has a price to me, even if it's not something I really wanna do. Basically, as long as you pay me enough and it's not illegal in my country, I'll do it.
LewdGamer: Do you ever face any difficulties in your drawing process?
Mews: Oh god, all the time. I'd say 90% of my process is just me struggling, haha. I suffer from some mental health issues that can be a bit debilitating at times, so there are definitely days where I just cannot get anything done, no matter how hard I try. It makes my turnaround time for finishing things slower than a lot of people, but through sheer willpower & better scheduling, I've been better able to work around it nowadays. Other than that, doing clean line art takes forever and makes me wanna die. Fuck line art.
LewdGamer: Could you briefly describe some of the projects you're currently working on?
Mews: You actually caught me in-between projects! I just finished up working on a game for the first time, which was an awesome experience. I was hired to do all the character art & CGs for Lunchtime Games Club, which is a super cute visual novel that was produced by Urban Meadows Publishing. Working on that over the past year really inspired me to start getting my own projects out there. While I really enjoy visual novels, I am a huge fan of games with dating sim aspects where you really have to go through the effort to woo characters. My goal is to make something in RPG Maker where you can explore a town and really feel like you're meeting and getting to know the people, make friends, go on dates, have sex, etc. I realize that's a hefty long-term goal, so, for now, I plan on starting out small with a short yuri dating sim to test the waters of my game-making skills, haha.
