Sony Ponys and Xboners together at last

After over 25 years on the eroge market, developer Mink has closed its doors on September 3rd, 2018.

Entering the world of erotic game production, developer Mink's history began in 1993 with the release of Wonpara Wars, a PC-98 board game simulator title borrowing many elements from popular game Archon.

Wonpara Wars

Throughout the 1990s and well into the 2000s, the company released many titles which got extremely popular hentai anime adaptations. These included Lingeries from 2001, adapted into Lingeries Office in 2003, the 1998 Utsukushiki Emono-tachi no Gakuen, adapted into Sin Sorority for the West in 2001, Mashou no Kao from 1996, recreated into the 2004 anime known for its English title, Two Facials of Eve, Tsubaki-iro no Prigione from 2001, adapted into the official English named anime, Heritage from Father, and arguably the most notable title, Yakin Byoutou, known in the English-speaking for as Night Shift Nurses. The highly popular and extremely kinky Night Shift Nurses received 3 hentai OVA series: Yakin Byoutou, Yakin Byoutou Ni, and Nanase Ren,with each of the titles corresponding to a visual novel game with the same name.

The narrative of the games released by Mink, mostly consisting of visual novel titles, usually dealt with all kinds of sexual depravities and kinks, but through its long life, the company also released a large variety of other titles that included romance stories, thrillers, and fantasy. Not shying away from portraying sexual situations in many aspects of life, a lot of the settings used in Mink's stories included schools, hospitals, offices, and other places attended by the general public.

On September 3rd, 2018, Mink's representative director Toshiro Abiru made a statement on the company's official website and social media, stating that Mink will be closing down after the release of their final work, Mama Reidou. In his statement, Abiru exclaimed that Mink's turn in the limelight has passed with the end of the Heisei era, and it's time for the company to retire from game production. At the end of his short statement, the director also added that he hopes the company will be remembered as one of the cornerstones of the eroge industry. You can read his full, translated (credited to Sankaku Complex) statement below.

During the time we were creating eroge we dashed along to the best of our ability, however we’ve concluded that it is no longer our time. With the end of the Heisei era and the retirement of the national singer, two large happenings this year – it is time for Mink to officially end its own performance. Those who have loved Mink like a father starting from our initial establishment to everyone and all users who have supported us, we truly offer our sincerest thanks. It would fill us with happiness to know if people would think of us as one of the cornerstones of the industry.

Despite Mink's closing, we hope all the current and former employees of the company continue to spread the love for all things related to erotic games and that they'll find other venues to further explore their talents.
