Atlus announces Catherine: Full Body, an expanded port of Catherine for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Famitsu has provided first details on the project.
Catherine was an odd title released by Atlus in 2011 for PS3 and Xbox 360. The game is an adventure drama about romance, responsibility, hedonism, and infidelity. The story is told through cutscenes and dialogues during the daytime of the protagonist’s life, while at night, they find themselves in a nightmare world forced to climb up a tower in a weird and difficult puzzle game. You can read our review of Catherine to find out more about it.
Atlus has announced that the game is being remade and expanded upon for the current generation of Sony’s consoles. The new PS4 and PSVita release will be subtitled Catherine: Full Body. According to the reveal article in Weekly Famitsu, the game will feature many new levels, better difficulty customization options, online competitive gameplay features, new cutscenes, multiple new endings, and a third “Catherine”.
While in the original game, the protagonist Vincent was torn between committing to either Catherine or Katherine, the game’s new release will feature a new option to expand the triangle. Nicknamed Rin, the pink-haired girl is a pianist at Vincent’s favorite bar, The Stray Sheep. She’s a ditsy girl unaware of her own charms. Her actual name and age are so far unknown. Rin’s voice will be provided by Aya Hirano, a renowned seiyuu known for her many anime roles, voicing characters such as Haruhi Suzumiya, Konata Izumi, and Misa Amane.
Atlus has also published a PV showcasing bits of the new animated cutscenes, showcasing the game’s logo and hinting that Rin might in fact be a trap. This isn’t terribly out of character for the title, as the original release already featured a post-operation trans woman as an NPC.
Catherine: Full Body is being made as a collaboration between Atlus and Studio Zero. The game is about halfway complete and hasn’t received a release date so far, though it’s planned for winter 2018 according to the PV. We would like to thank Gematsu for translating the news.
In addition to the initial Japanese announcement, Atlus USA has confirmed that Catherine: Full Body will be receiving a release in the Americas and Europe, with an unconfirmed release date. The game’s English teaser site can be seen here.
