At least here the pages aren't sticky

The Worst, Xela, and DarkTl have collaborated to bring us a parody hentai game reminiscent of 80s cyberpunk, Babe Runner.

Today, we’re gonna take a look at a title called Babe Runner. This game is a passion project created by The Worst, Xela, and DarkTl. What they are creating is a porn parody of the cult classic film, Blade Runner. Their game oozes with that retro-futuristic feel which was popular in 80s sci-fi flicks. They just released a public demo back on the 20th of May, so I decided to check it out.

You’ll be playing as Nika, a sexy Police Officer investigating on a case of mysterious abductions in a decaying 2048 Lust Angeles. Improve your fighting skills to survive a world of secret plots and deceit while fighting hostile gangs; Investigate crime scenes and locations to reveal a mastermind conspiracy set by shady, powerful and deceiving characters… Unveil a terrible secret challenging everything you think you knew about yourself…

Who will you trust?

When I launched the demo for Babe Runner, I was immediately blown away. The last time I recall looking at a game that had such fantastic art direction was the very impressive demo for Sanguine Rose. It wasn’t something I’d expected to see again anytime soon, but the team behind Babe Runner nailed it. The level of polish and attention to detail on something as basic as the title screen was absolutely stunning. Many developers will slap their logo over a static image of some girl sitting in the grass, throw in some royalty-free music and call it a day; not these guys — not in Babe Runner. The title screen is fully animated with a stellar theme tune that really evokes the cyberpunk feel of the game. Now, perhaps my favoritism for cyberpunk aesthetic is swaying my opinion here, but I also have to mention that the artwork is completely badass!

This is the world map. More locations open up as the story progresses.

All this talk about the title screen, but what about the game? Well, I’ll say this for certain, they follow in Blade Runner’s footsteps almost to a fault. The movie was criticized for its slow-moving story, and that same flaw comes across in Babe Runner. The initial world building is a tad bit slow, and they throw several in-game terms at the player all at once. It’s certainly the type of thing that could turn off some people right at the get-go, or encourage them to speed click through the story parts at the very least. Fortunately, this doesn’t last terribly long, and to help ease the data dump, you’re introduced to several interesting characters. Even a few of these characters are parodies.

Once you get the plot details out of the way, the game begins. The main goal in this demo is to actually become a Babe Runner. You do this by ranking up in various areas by playing minigames. One of my personal favorites is the shooting range. As simple as it is, it’s pretty darn entertaining. Not only that, it brings more of that retro aesthetic to the game, mostly because it’s a variation of the old Atari Amiga game, It Came From the Desert.

Babe Runner on the left and It Came From the Desert on the Right.

In addition to that minigame, there is also some turn-based combat, sexual minigames, side quests, and some police patrols that you perform to earn money. These patrols are fairly crucial, as you need money to go to the shooting range and buy equipment. You don’t actually do anything on these missions, it’s just a random pass/fail scenario determined by chance. With the amount of money you need to raise in addition to leveling up your effectiveness for specific patrol types, this process can begin to feel grindy and repetitive. From what I was able to gather from The Worst’s Patreon page, this is all just a taste of what is in store for the future. Hopefully, this feature will get some refinement in the future.

This sex scene and others are animated for your pleasure.

Since this is an adult game, there are sex scenes as well. Thanks again to that lovely attention to detail, The Worst provides us some sexy animations in the adult scenes. Another nice feature that shows the care put into Babe Runner, is the ability to customize clothes. You can head to the store with earned credits and shop for new attire. While there is actually a mission in the demo which requires you buy a specific outfit, the clothing is mostly for looks. All clothing changes you make are reflected in your character portrait as well. The devs even broke the 4th wall to hint at further clothing options in subsequent updates.

Unfortunately, the game doesn’t let you leave your house naked.

All-in-all, Babe Runner is highly refined and an excellent specimen for any hentai game developer to take queues from. If you want to check out the demo, and I highly recommend you do, you can find the download link for PC, Mac, and Linux versions on the Patreon pages of either The Worst, Xela , or DarkTl. Right now, you’ll find the most posts in relation to Babe Runner’s development on The Worst’s page.
