3D hentai animation using MikuMikuDance, Source Filmmaker, and many other programs are all the rage nowadays with big and small independent producers throwing their hats into the ring bringing you everything from vanilla pornographic video game parodies with Zelda blowing Link to cartoon spoofs of My Little Pony characters with “grown up” bodies engaging in futanari anal with their huge horse cocks and even bigger scrotums.

As you may infer from that, the world of 3D hentai animations is diverse in content as well as fetishes. Both Western and Eastern creators cover a wide spectrum of adult content, usually focusing on one specific series or even a specific sexual fetish. One such creator that we had a recent chance to interview exemplifies the latter. Steadily growing in popularity on Iwara.tv and Pixiv is Mantis-X, whose animated work specifically spotlights very proactive and sexually forward lolis. They also sometimes have dicks of their own.


LewdGamer: Tell us a bit about yourself Mantis-X. Does the nickname hold any significance?

I am a pretty simple guy who enjoys computers, video games, and being creative. I’ve been a computer hobbyist for many years, and have been 3D modeling for about nine years now.

I have used the screen name “Mantis” in some fashion for as long as I can remember. Probably going all the way back to my original Yahoo chat accounts and first Battle.Net accounts. I’ve stuck with it through all these years and decided to just toss “X” on the end because it sounded kinda “porny.” The fact that it is pronounced as “Mantis Sex” also gave me a laugh!

LewdGamer: How did you first get into 3D modeling? Did you start off with Blender or did you work your way up to it?

Well, I pretty much started with Blender, outside of some very simple modding done for FFXI years back. Blender does have a hellish learning curve, but so do many 3D programs.

My very first creations were mods for Fallout 3. I made a few outfits and kinda lost interest. I was completely new to the program, so the outfits were nothing to write home about, but it gave me some grounding within the program.

Later on, I became obsessed with the game Xenosaga and the character KOS-MOS. So much in fact that I decided to start ripping her models from Xenosaga III using an old DX9 ripper. Essentially ripping the data right out of your graphics card. This was a lengthy and arduous process and I had to introduce 3DS Max into the workflow because I required some tricks it had that could not be accomplished in Blender at the time.

After a few weeks, I grew bored being limited by the ripped models, so I decided to start modeling my own instead. I originally used a few assets such as her face until I was skilled enough to make my own, but it all grew from there.


LewdGamer: What made you decide to get into animating erotic movies?

It was mostly due to finances. I was feeling kind of “stuck” in life and wanted to move forward. I brainstormed a bit and decided that maybe I could use my 3D skills to make some money and start a revenue stream.

The three major options from my perspective were to either take modeling commissions, try to hit it big-time with my Chen animations on Youtube and get some money that way, or try my hand at 3D hentai.

Now, I don’t really like doing commissions; I really don’t. It’s mostly due to a bunch of personal reasons that I won’t bother getting into at the moment, so this left me with animations.

Chen was doing okay, but I wasn’t entirely convinced it was gonna hit it big enough to pay rent. I started browsing around Patreon and various other places and noticed that erotic material really seemed to bring in the bucks (no surprise). At that point, I decided to try it out a bit and focus on loli.

LewdGamer: Do you make your own models? How much work is it?

Yes, and I take pride that all my characters are modeled by my hand. In fact, just about everything you see in one of my animations was modeled and textured by me. Although I might pick up the odd prop from time to time, if it would take too much time to model them myself (such as a sports car, for example).

It is quite a lot of work and incredibly time intensive. Reusing assets that I previously made really helps the time crunch. Though, even then I spend many days tweaking the finer facial details, modeling the hair and clothing, rigging it all and adding physics. I’ve been known to spend dozens of hours just making minor adjustments to the face until I really approve of what it looks like. It’s a labor of love, and I put a lot of dedication into it.

Which comes the tricky part: Balancing model creation with animation. Every day I spend modeling is a day I don’t spend animating and vice-versa, so time management is critical.


LewdGamer: Why did you pick iwara.tv as the “base of operations” for all of your hentai animation uploads?

It was easily the most straightforward option. Pixiv forces censoring and does not allow actual video uploads, and many other options are just not very friendly towards lolicon content.

Iwara not only allows lolicon, but doesn’t require me to censor my animation, and it presents it all in a nice fashion similar to what people would see on YouTube etc. It also came with a sizable user base. It wasn’t some super-obscure website that only two people know of. Allowing me to garnish a good number of views and exposure from my uploads.

LewdGamer: Iwara.tv features mainly music videos, both erotic and not, using MikuMikuDance as the base. Is music an important element of your videos?

No, not really, music is at best just a background theme for the majority of my videos. Though, I have made a few Miku videos where music was a big component to the video.

LewdGamer: You mainly use the same model for most of your female and male characters with slight variations for hairstyles, eye color, and other minor elements. Do you have plans to create more varied models?

It depends on what you mean by “varied.” I don’t have any real intention of veering outside of the loli body type. Oppai lolis (lolis with big boobs) are a solid “maybe.” However, I don’t see myself making a Chun-Li body type anytime soon.

LewdGamer: What are your favorite fetishes? Considering the predominant subject matter you cover in your movies, this answer, more than likely, will be quite obvious.

Well, loli is definitely a top fetish of mine. Other than that, I am a big fan of femdom, twins tails, and stockings. It also probably goes without saying that I prefer the dicks to be quite large as well, and the extras that come with that such as stomach bulging etc.


LewdGamer: You covered multiple popular anime, manga, and game series in your hentai animations. Which ones do you enjoy the most and are you planning to incorporate other franchises into your work in the future?

I really enjoy the Neptunia series and all of its various materials. It’s a fun world that doesn’t ever take itself too seriously and I dig that. Not to mention it has a wide array of likable and cute/sexy characters that cater to a wide variety of tastes. The games themselves are generally mediocre at best, but the characters keep me coming back!

Touhou is another favorite of mine. Although, admittedly, I have not played many of the games. I really love some of the characters and the music is stellar.

As far as anime/manga go, I have watched or read surprisingly little. Vampire Bund is a favorite of mine for obvious reasons. I am also a fan of Ghost in the Shell and Lucky Star.

LewdGamer: Any other fetishes you would like to explore in your videos?

Well, I do have a few things in mind, but I don’t want to mention them yet as it may be premature.

LewdGamer: The dicks you model for both your male characters and futanari ones are very meaty and large. Is this to better show how small the female characters really are?

It certainly does help exaggerate that effect. Though, it’s mostly down to personal preference. I enjoy hentai due to its ability to give us material that is impossible in reality. Tiny females taking silly big dicks is certainly one such scenario.


LewdGamer: A certain white dragon loli has been getting popular recently. Any chance we will see her in your work?

Oh boy, I am getting asked this a lot lately. I cannot say for certain at this point in time. I view her more as a “head pat” loli than a lewdable one. Although that does not rule out the possibility.

LewdGamer: Let’s talk about your safe-for-work creations for a bit. Most of the shorts on your channel feature Touhou Project’s Chen and all of them border on the surreal. How did you come up with those?

Chen started out as a silly little project I did because I was bored. I really got, and still do get, a kick out of bkub’s Chen’s works and I just decided to model her one day. The original style of 3D monochrome gave me a really surreal vibe, so I decided to take that and run with it.

I eventually switched to a bright colorful palette and switched to a more random-whacky style of skits in the process.

In general, my creation process was pretty spontaneous, which helped lend to the randomness of the skits. I would generally start with some sort of idea or theme, such as “Chen dressed up as Captain Kirk” or “Chen meeting up with King Harkinian.” Then take it from there and think it up as I go.

LewdGamer: Do you plan to branch out beyond short animations?

Why, yes, actually. I just recently have started learning how to use Ren’Py in hopes of creating some simple H-games as well. I am not entirely sure where the road will lead, but for now I am working on a “Rock, Paper, Scissors” game with my OC Patoots. Where she strips every time you win.

Other ideas I have for now are “Choose your path” style animations using Ren’Py, where the viewer can pick and choose which animations are played.


LewdGamer: Lastly, do you have any advice for anyone trying to get into 3D modeling and animation?

It is a long, tedious and steep learning curve, but you can get there with some tenacity and dedication. Don’t expect to be Picasso overnight. Over time it all becomes second nature and you’ll look back and laugh at what used to give you trouble.

My advice is to stick with it and keep at it. Find something you are passionate about and focus on modeling those things then branch out if you wish.

Tutorials are also very helpful, and there is a wide array of them no matter which 3D program you decide to use. There’s no shame in checking those out.
