The company CLOCKUP tries inputting new standards in their Visual Novel Eroge! Sex and Games Make Sexy Games. They attempt to show their professionalism from the start, dispensing a professional interface that contains sufficient means for customization. Extensive customization in these settings are easily forgotten in most titles and possessing this amount of options is always preferable in visual novels.

The premise shows equal promise, as we follow the machinations side of our pervy eroge player. This protagonist is purely represented as talentless, who lacks any skill or talent in development, aside from possessing sufficient experience in playing every eroge game possible. His passion for eroge games is without a doubt, and his search for employment soon becomes desperate. Many companies turned him down in his search for a prospective employer, and this remained fruitless for a long time. Fortunately, a crumbled note gives him one last chance to meet a company named “Flower” and realize his dream of becoming an eroge developer. Still, this company doesn’t live up to his expectations, being an amateur company based in a run-down apartment and down on their luck. The sheer lack of success on their previous title has brought them to the brink of bankruptcy, with the prospective success of their current title being the last hope for the company’s survival. Luckily, the staff is purely comprised of beautiful women that possess their unique personalities and traits. These attractive features give him and the player much-needed conviction to work hard in this new creative environment. The player tries transferring this experience of eroge game to the female staff in many unorthodox ways, depending on the players choices on what girl to focus your “dedication” on. Those different choices give the game plenty of paths to take, offering a ton of replay value.

The personality and traits of the characters contain a unique tone, but they still follow the stereotypical standards of the industry. These personalities remain relatively consistent throughout the game, with the exception of the game’s demand to make characters act out differently for the sake of progressing the H-scenes that remain the dominant factor in the game. These actions reveal the superficial nature of the characters, making them look inconsistent and outright illogical to justify certain actions.

This inconsistent behavior appears to be equally present in the protagonist, contradicting his actions on several opportunities, which felt out of place and humoristic in equal measure. This humoristic nature is a trope, the game tries utilizing in the game’s plot regularly, and it did make me chuckle on several scenes. This humor was also present in certain grammatical errors, and outright mistakes in translation did make me laugh. These mistakes happen unintentionally during many situations in the game, although it didn’t distract me from the overall experience.

All these errors didn’t make the story too much of a pain, as it did serve its purpose in making me feel interested in the characters. The overall arc of portraying eroge game development inside the game remains an interesting and original concept, which felt refreshing in this genre.

However, the most interesting trait has to be the superb quality of the CG scenes that appear plentiful in the game. Almost every fetish is accounted for and gives the player a satisfying experience alongside a good measure of variety. Nonetheless, the major strength remains in the originality of each scene, making each scene stand out on it’s own and contains the ability to surprise the player. The endearing audio helps greatly in this regard, giving each character a distinctive sound and juicy sounds that portray the actions happening on screen in an accurate manner. One small complaint was in regard to the quality of the artistic backgrounds that remain good, although some are too frequently used.

Eroge! Sex and Games Make Sexy Games is a visual novel that is appealing to look at with quality art along with great variety that will keep the player widely entertained. Sadly, this quality isn’t present in the writing that felt lackluster and lacked refinement in characterization.
