[UPDATE] NSFW Artist Shädman’s Website, Shadbase, Taken Down

The popular artist has since made a statement on YouTube and Twitter

The erotic artist known as Shädman has recently run into legal trouble in relation to the host of his website Shadbase.com.

Popular Western not-safe-for-work artist Shädman, known for his unapologetic, grungy and meticulously detailed parodies of games, cartoons, and real life people, has had his website Shadbase.com taken down by his own host.

[UPDATE 04/03/2017 8:45 AM EST] Shadbase.com has been brought back online following Shädman’s comment on the Shädman Steam Group.

In a YouTube stream video, which you can view in full below, Shädman has decided to shine some light on his current predicament and that status of his website Shadbase.com. In the 40-minute video, the creator explains his host has taken his website down for what he says was deemed “unacceptable content.” While he does not elaborate in detail what the content actually was, he hints at his multiple drawings of minors to have been the major problem for the server provider. Shädman then proceeds to explain the importance of his website to him on a personal level and how when it’s brought back up he does not want to compromise and censor his content. He goes on to say he is currently trying to get his content back from the host as part of negotiations.

During the same stream, the artist also asks his fans if they want to see a redesign of Shadbase.com while retaining his artistic integrity when the site eventually gets back online in a week or so, according to his unsure estimates. He also mentions how for personal and non-profit reasons he does not want to move his content to his Patreon account or any other of his social media accounts, with which he had trouble in the past, citing his Facebook profile currently being suspended and his Tumblr account not allowing the type of pornographic content he creates.

Lastly, the artist mentioned that with his current ongoing situation, the best way to reach updates on his status and content is to follow him directly on his Twitter account.

The artist later took to Twitter later on quoting a snippet of California (his current place of residence) state law regarding the depiction of minors in drawings, cartoons, sculptures and paintings and once again clarifying his stance on his own personal work and his legal right to create it.

While the artist cites California law to back up his argument, he does not explicitly state where his host keeps his website data. It is possible that the physical location of servers where the data Shadbase.com is stored is found in a state that deems the depiction of minors in drawings as illegal and that would be the root of his original problem. Whatever the case may be, we hope Shädman’s situation gets resolved in a timely manner and he can return to drawing what he know and loves best and what his fans grew to adore him for. We will keep you updated as the story goes on.

  • At the end of the day, this is why anyone who deals in Adult content or cares about self expression needs to research the policies and limitations imposed by their host. NEVER just go on the word of a sales rep.

  • Why doesn’t he just switch his domain and hosting to another host?

  • GroovyPotato

It’s not the law in the end, it’s only about self-censorship and moral crusaders. Cartoon is cartoon, nothing else…

    • Nope, its about corporate perception. Companies have teams to make sure their fortune 500 clients don’t get mad and walk, not to mention the internal legal teams who are joined to the hip with HR.

      • GroovyPotato

        Thus self-censorship 🙂

  • Honestly? Fucker deserved to be outed.

    • ProxyDoug

      Why?

      • Idunno

Because he’s kind of a prick

        • Cats736

So being a prick means he should have is website taken down and face legal action? You and Josh are the pricks.

        • Kandyman

I would hope that a lewd pornographic artist would be kind of a prick.

    • Ézéchiel McCormack

And you’re a degenerate- but you don’t see me silencing your ass now do you?

      • Poor art skills, poor taste, same old shit, refuses to grow as an artist, relies on shock for the sake of his own ego, doesn’t care about his fans (which is a different book entirely), and too far up his own ass to give a fuck about anything but his own site without questioning why it was shitcanned and chalking it up to “censorship”.

Is censorship a problem? Yes, absolutely. But not for somebody who’s only mad because his black loli drawings weren’t saved locally like a dumbass.

        • Ézéchiel McCormack

Are you retarded? He said it himself that he didn’t care if he had to redo everything from scratch- but the entire domain was taken down. He didn’t have anywhere to come back too. And even then- what artist WOULDN’T be pissed that years of their own work has been flushed down the toilet in a single day? Are you that much of an arse to not even be able to see that? Censorship is problem for every citizen- regardless. Get off your high horse.

All his content are on his host’s server and there is no copy?
Why would he put it all in one place?

I love some of his artworks. Hope things work out well for him.

  • BeholdMyPower

Seems odd that you’d keep all the original data on servers and not have copies locally available to you. But maybe I’m reading into this wrong. Either way, hope things work themselves out even if some of Shadman’s stuff does raise the eyebrow.

    #freeshadman

Man, even if you don’t like this content, once you let this kind of censorship nonsense happen to this kind of work, it’s not long until your preferences are in danger of being censored.

Because just about anything can become an “obscenity” or even a “hate crime” now, with enough false piety to promote it. And once the principle is broken here, there’s nothing to keep other fictitious preferences protected.

Get rid of things like death threats and ACTUAL crimes. Leave things like erotic illustrations and pixelated virtual worlds alone.

    • Kandyman

And, DAYUM, the Shadman’s loaded! Gimme summa’ dem’ bills! 😉

  • FALprofessional

Yo. Shadman! Don’t care much for his type of art, but love him all the same. Hope all has worked out!
