A Quick Look at League of Maidens

After nearly two years in development, the two person team known as Maiden Gaming is ready to show off their creation: League of Maidens.

League of Maidens is a free-to-play, action/strategy battle arena. The gameplay itself is said to take several features from various genres such as, tower defense, flight games, and even third person/first person shooters. Players go head-to-head in 5 vs. 5 battles in an attempt to destroy each other’s towers. Each match should run about 20 minutes. Check out the trailer and more game details below:

League of Maidens® is a 3D free-to-play online battle arena real time strategy game for PC/Mac featuring beautiful maidens with superhuman powers. Players battle each other in teams of 5 to destroy towers guarding the enemy base. The match is won when all towers are destroyed including the main tower located in the enemy base.

The game features FPS style shooting and projectile attacks, 3rd person melee fighting with combo ability and combo counters, building and environment destruction, dynamic day/night cycles and weather, human flight at the speed of sound, swimming, car/truck driving, lifting and flying with cars/trucks, grabbing enemies while flying at high speed and smashing them into the ground or buildings, indoor and outdoor combat, in-depth character customization, building and recruiting military assets (soldiers, tanks, turrets, war ships and jets) and much more.

As far as the story goes, Maiden Gaming has plans to release a series of digital comic books. There isn’t currently a set release date, but these comic will outline the backstory and lore behind League of Maidens. The first one will be Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, with artwork by Ryan Kinnaird.

Despite being f2p and containing microtransactions Maiden Gaming promises that they will never charge for items that are required to be competitive. Their fees will only be used to purchase cosmetic items like outfits and skins.

If you were wondering how the trailer and gameplay videos were created, they were actually made using a tool that Maiden Gaming created called Motion Replay™. This tool allowed them to capture the footage you are seeing, and it too will be made available to players.

League of Maidens is set to release as a private alpha this winter, and will be playable on PC and Mac. If you’re interested, head over to the League of Maidens official website. You can see more screenshot, GIFs, and information on the FAQ page. Currently, registration is open for the alpha. Access to the private requires a $10 pledge, and a public alpha will be released sometime later. Supporters of the alpha will also be offered some additional goodies.

Tbh it looks terrible. It seems just like one of those awkward games that feel like they don’t really know what they wanna be. They have all these elements from all these video game genres and you’re supposed to utilize them all within a 20 minute match? Not to mention that it seems pointless as well as pointlessly ambitious to attempt to join all these genres into one. It just doesn’t seem like it would be fun to be in the middle of a fighter-shooter action-y brawl and then jump out of the action to plan where to build buildings or vehicles or whatever. Even if you were to plan and build your stuff before the game i think it would still feel more like a needless gimmick than fun gameplay. The style of the game seems weird too. Why aren’t the heroines wearing anything but their underwear and boots? This is a straight up action game, not a porn/ecchi game yet they’re all barely clothed for some reason. It’s like it wants to be an erotic game but doesn’t dare to cross that border. It just doesn’t make sense. Why are they ALL almost naked? The lack of clothing just breaks immersion at this point. The models sooner feel incomplete than sexy.

Motion Replay™ looks interesting though. Would be cool if they could make it into an efficient recording tool and sell it to other game companies. However, judging by the poor frame rate of the trailer I doubt it’s well optimized right now.

all your argument falls apart when you said sexy clothing break immersion lol

I guess the attire choice is meant to be seen as superhero like, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did one in full latex, plus I think the game is not meant as pure H game, more like just fan service.

  • Eldhin Hellknight

    Well, it looks interesting

  • Yamato

Reminds me of Gunslinger Stratos, could be fun with more polish.

those character models need a bit more work. In the 1st vid at 0:35 the chicks shoulders are as wide as the dudes standing next to her. The devs should look at South Korean F2P games for inspiration.

  • YuneKirby

I’ll give it a shot. I’ve seen better looking games, but the general style is appealing enough and might get improved by release. The gameplay looks a little chaotic, but that might be fun in its own right. Kind of reminds me of Saints Row IV in terms of the crazy combat going on.

F2P, so might as well try it.

Looks like a crowded/hectic version of smite, plus traveling more distance faster. Things aren’t very clear from the gameplay video, maybe the HUD will make it more playable.

Hmm, a 3rd-person action-brawler MOBA that uses comicbook superheroes as the core design. It looks interesting.

I can see this shaping up to be an interesting superhero MOBA.

  • Will Sith

I wish the in game characters looked like the digital comic book designs. I may check it out but it’s not really hooking me.

Thank you for all of the feedback! Just as an FYI we feature multiple body types in the game with complete customization. A segment of our audience wants to see muscular more powerful looking goddesses and a segment of our audience wants more feminine looking goddesses. We have offerings for both. Here is a photo of the body type that has more feminine features for those that are interested.

Signed up for the alpha, would be cool if I got in. Looks like it could be some good fun.

    I like it

Bad false advertising. Using anime-style promotional/marketing art to draw attention but then you look at the game graphics and they look completely different. Like those Chinese browser/mobile games using false advertising to get people to check it out but the actual game looks nothing like the art or assets used in advertisements.
