Even the furries get love here!

After a rough couple of weeks that resulted in the campaign only garnering $55,165 of its $140,000 goal, the Sharin no Kunikickstarter campaign has been suspended.

On July 21st, Tokyo Otaku Mode, the managers for the Sharin no Kuni kickstarter, canceled the campaign and released an update regarding the project’s suspension. Having only reached 39% of its funding goal with about a week remaining, it was obvious that without a miracle, the campaign was on the track to fail.

With little time remaining, even though there may still be changes we can implement and room for positive news, the reality we must accept is that reaching our fundraising goal is extremely unlikely at this point.

Thus, we have decided to temporarily suspend fundraising for this project on Kickstarter.

It truly pains us to bring news of the Kickstarter project’s temporary conclusion before having reached its goal, and we would like to offer our heartfelt apologies to everyone who has backed it so far. Our project team recognizes the many issues that this Kickstarter project has borne from its initial stages, from promotion and communication to the funding goal and rewards, and we have reflected greatly upon all of these.

Despite having made some positive changes to the initial plan thanks to its prefundia phase, there were still many issues that people expressed over the campaign, which more than likely contributed to its drastic drop in funding after the initial wave. While it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what the biggest issue was, some of the most mentioned issues were the initial goal, the stretch goal amounts for the remaining part of the fandisc (the first half of it was included in the initial funding goal), reward tiers and pricing, lack of promotion and continual updates, and the initial lack of add-ons and high price of the 18+ patch. While TOM did try to communicate with backers and implement changes to concerns people brought up, many felt that it was too little too late, and that these should have been hashed out prior to the campaign launch.

The update continues with TOM stating that the campaign is not dead, and that they plan to rework it in various ways regarding the initial and stretch fund goals, reward tiers, console/mobile porting and improving their promotional end. There is currently no tentative date for the campaign restart, but we will keep you up to date on any news or dates that arise pertaining to the project.
