Here’s a quick look at some of the content that was on display at the VR Fest 01 held on June 12th. The content in question is Nanai-chan to Asobou! (Playing with Nanai-chan!), a title currently being developed by VRJCC.
There have been many fascinating things shown off at Japan’s first Adult Virtual Reality Festival last week. One such item, and probably the one that attracted the most attention in and out of the festival, is VRJCC’s 3D animated sex simulator Playing with Nanai-chan.
As you can see from the poster above, which reads “If I say I want to do it…will you think I’m lewd?”, this software caters to VR dilettantes. Nanai-chan to Asobou! is a virtual reality eroge developed by VRJCC for use with the Oculus Rift CV1 hardware. The character design was drawn by artist and longtime friend 2c=garoa-san (from Honnokimochiya), while the 3D models feature help from Kakomiki-san for that full-fledged cuteness. Finally, the model animation includes the use of popular motion capture system Perception Neuron, which allows for lifelike movement and gestures.
Part of the “control scheme” (if you want to call it that) for the demo shown at the Adult Virtual Reality Festival uses an inflatable plastic body model with an attached smartphone device picking up alignment and orientation changes using an inbuilt magnetometer, accelerometer, and gyroscope sensors. It’s a simple, yet effective and crafty concept mechanically, but it’s still nowhere near the life-like body texture a lot of people would desire as far as the body model goes. Then again, what was shown at the festival was just a prototype, and it’s safe to assume both the control system and the body dummy will only improve as development continues.
Magazine KAI-YOU, an outlet that deals with everything in popular Japanese culture, has uploaded a video to their official YouTube channel showing off Playing with Nanai-chan! at the VR Fest 01. Take a look at how people have certainly enjoyed “playing” with Nanai-chan.
Playing with Nanai-chan! (or at least an extended demo of it) is expected to be made available at this year’s Summer Comiket. For those lucky owners of the Oculus Rift, summer has just gotten a lot steamier.
