The Skullgirls 2nd Encore port for the PlayStation Vita has been finished and was given the release date of April 5th.
In May of last year, we reported that the Skullgirls port would make it to PS4 and PS Vita during that summer. Since then, the PS4 port was released, but the Vita launch was delayed due to unforeseen optimization issues. At long last, we are happy to report that there has been an official announcement that the port will finally be released on April 5th. Lab Zero Games has also announced that the game will ship with all of the same content as the PC, PS3, and PS4 releases.
For those who haven’t been keeping up, 2nd Encore is the ultimate edition of Skullgirls, containing:
- All 5 DLC characters
- Fully voiced story mode
- New Challenges — including playing as the Skullgirl herself, Marie!
- New Trials
- New Survival Mode
- Full Platinum Trophy set
The PS Vita version also features:
- Cross play with the PS4 and PS3 versions
- Local multiplayer support via PSTV
And, as we noted above, Skullgirls 2nd Encore on PS Vita is one of a handful of games to support local multiplayer on PSTV. Just sync a second DualShock 3 or 4 controller and you’ll be able to play with a friend next to you, just like the PS3 or PS4 versions!
It’s good to see that fans will not only gain access to the same content as the other platforms, including local multiplayer support, but will also be able to fight against other Skullgirls players on Sony platforms via cross-play. The icing on the cake is that the Sony cross-buy from the PS3 and PS4 platforms will carry over to the Vita, meaning that if you’ve purchased the game on any Sony platform, you’ll be able to access it on any other Sony platform you own. The Vita release also opens up the final patch that Zero Labs intends to put out for Skullgirls: the Multiplayer Lobby patch.
Skullgirls’ multiplayer lobbies allow eight players to gather and fight or spectate, but also have a feature we like to call “All Play.”
With All Play, eight players enter the lobby, and all eight can be paired up to fight at once. And as they complete their matches, they’ll be paired up again as soon as they’re out.
Lastly, be sure to take a look at the trailer to see for yourself all the Vita release has to offer.
