Izumi Banya, one of the most prolific visual novel scenario writers, has recently teased a new project for dark eroge developer Black Cyc.

Black Cyc’s official blog has been recently updated with some very exciting news from ex-company writer Izumi Banya. The author has plugged a short preview of a new project he will be helping to produce. Not much is known about the production itself, but Banya himself has stated that it will be a story of average length and that most of the game’s features, including CGs, have already been done. Be sure to read Banya’s full blog post just below this paragraph.

Black Cyc’s long-in-coming new work / Izumi Banya

It’s been a while since I’ve updated you guys in such a way. This is former Cyc staff, current freelance writer, Izumi Banya, and this is the first post of a new weekly (usually) update blog for info on new stuff. Thanks for reading.

Anyway, I’m sure you’re all wondering what I’ll actually be updating you on. Truth is, there isn’t a new title quite yet that I can tell you guys about. The project isn’t planned to be that huge, perhaps a little under average size. However, as work progresses on it, we’ll start distributing information (we’re planning to wait until at least the scenario and CGs are done), so I figured, screw the title, we’ll just start the blog now. It will probably get an official title around March or April of next year, and will likely become available in May. Upon hearing that, you’re probably thinking that’s quite a long time, but since the main artist isn’t freelance, it’s actually going at quite a relaxed pace. The event CGs and much of the features are already finished, so we’re thinking about showing glimpses of the finished product as it gets more and more complete.

Also, I’d like to mention that not only am I working on this new project as the scenario writer, but also as the producer, director, a little bit as a programmer, and various other jobs. In particular, the staff was worrying about how to promote the game “Ayakami Shizume” that Cyclet put out in May of this year, since it doesn’t really fit with the brand name at all, so promotion is falling to me for this new one.

As I said before, this game is relatively small in scope, but I’ll try my best to get information out to people that might be interested in it. Anyway, if I write too much in this post, too much info might leak out. All I really wanted to do with this update was set up an atmosphere that shows we’re serious about this, while also greeting anyone that might be interested. It’ll probably be a pretty laid-back blog itself, but anyone that’s interested, please consider following it.

As a company, Black Cyc has been founded in 2001 as a subsidiary brand of the Cyc Co, Ltd. The Black Cyc brand has since then been known for producing erotic visual novels with dark themes as the main focus. Anything from forced sexual encounters, violence and gore to the supernatural and the eldritch, the VN maker has dipped their gruesome and blackened toes into it. Two of their most well-known and well-received titles include MinDeaD BlooD ~Shihaisha no Tame no Kyoushikyoku~, a dynamic tale of vampires and vampire hunters set on an island just off the coast of Japan, and Gore Screaming Show a bone-chilling mystery story starring a godlike amalgamation of chaos. After the release of Gokuin no Sentou in 2011, the company has not released any new games, only opting to resell their older titles updated for the newest Windows systems.

Gore Screaming Show

Sadly, none of the Black Cyc games have been officially released in the West, even though there have been several attempts by fans to at least translate Gore Screaming Show (the current translation project by Crying Translation seems to be stalled). While it is currently unlikely that any of Black Cyc visual novels will receive official Western releases, the new project hinted by Izumi Banya may just be a small light in a dark tunnel for both the company its long-time fans. Only time will tell.
