The announcement-heavy Sekai Project panel at Otakon featured more than just upcoming game releases. A video of Muv-Luv’s original creator Kouki Yoshimune expressing his thanks for the overwhelming fan support was also shown during the presentation.
In the almost 7-minute video shown by Sekai Project, Kouki Yoshimune briefly touches upon the long history of the Muv-Luv visual novels and how they managed to stay popular for such a long period of time. The overwhelming fan support from people all over the world has been a source of great pride and satisfaction for âge and Yoshimune himself. With the ever-present backing of the fan community, the creators have felt an enormous amount of pressure to bring the original Japanese visual novel series over to the West. Various difficulties, such as legal to moral differences between Japan and the rest of the world and a financial wall have prevented the creators from completing the desired translation.
Yoshimune then goes on to explain how fan translation patches distributed online have helped Muv-Luv games stay on top of the most popular visual novels on the Visual Novel Database. This in turn has inspired the developers to try to overcome the staggering amount of potential localization problems and fully reach out to the Western audience.
Partnering up with ixtl and Degica and bringing the translation project to Kickstarter has become the dev team’s next course of action. If that goes forward, Yoshimune has also been pondering releasing Muv-Luv in the West as an animated series and movie.
In a warm final statement, Muv-Luv’s creator expressed how the struggles of young people in today’s modern and hectic world have motivated him to continue relaying the message of both Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative as his life mission.
